Kate's Advocacy

We are evaluating several initiatives at UNC that would align with the goals of the foundation. 

Development of a patient advocacy board for the NC Cancer Hospital. Funding could support the launch of this initiative; hiring a consultant advisor; having a workshop, creating a charter, statement of purpose, getting the board recruited and trained, etc. 

• Promote enrollment of minority/underserved patients on clinical trials. Help support new Protocol office recruitment specialist and/or interpreter. Provide materials for patient contact and outreach. Help patients/families with transportation and housing costs.
   

• Establish a statewide, clinical trials registry. Funds could support hardware/software purchase and some ongoing support expenses plus outreach to invite participation in registry.
   

• Provide support for the annual Clinical Trails conference which is open to all affiliate sites to further education in promoting clinical trials.  Consider establishment of an endowment to name the conference after Kate.
   

• Establish a fund to support UNC oncology nurses interested in enhancing their education and research opportunities in clinical trials and clinical research.
   

• Support the School of Medicine initiative called “Working on Women in Science” (WOWS).  This program has a number of components that might be attractive to the Foundation
   

• Provide support to a program called “Womentors” for women undergrads run by the UNC Women’s Center.
